Intracellular Fate of Sub-Toxic Concentration of Functionalized Selenium Nanoparticles in Aggressive Prostate Cancer Cells

Nanomaterials have published an article by Bissardon et Al in which scientists have investigated “the impact of sub-toxic concentrations of Se0 functionalized nanoparticles (SeNPs) on prostate cancer PC-3 cells and determined their intracellular localization and fate”.  Selenium 0 (Se0) is a powerful anti-proliferative agent in cancer research. Their abstract concludes: “our findings provide new insight to further study the various mechanisms of cytotoxicity of SeNPs.”

PC-3 cells were plated onto Silson’s silicon nitride membranes of size 1.5 mm × 1.5 mm and 500 nm thicknes, and then analyzed at the hard X-ray Nanoprobe beamline, I14, at Diamond Light Source.
