The role and fate of organic carbon during aging of ferrihydrite

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta have published an article by Zhao et Al on the role and fate of organic carbon (OC) during aging of ferrihydrite. Their abstract concludes that “we suggest that our work might offer a deeper mechanistic insight into the processes responsible for OC persistence with minerals and thus the long-term preservation of OC in natural environments”.

Silson’s silicon nitride membrane windows were used for the scanning transmission X-ray microscopy near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (STXM NEXAFS) which was conducted at Diamond Light Source.
