Reversible and Irreversible Cation Intercalation in NiFeOx Oxygen Evolution Catalysts in Alkaline Media

The American Chemical Society have published an article by Trzesniowski et Al. in which the intercalation of ions from electrocatalysts was studied in order to gain a deeper understanding of the catalytic performance of these electrocatalysts.  The dynamics of the catalyst, water molecules, and ions during intercalation were investigated using operando soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS).

Silson’s coated silicon nitride membranes were used for sample preparation. The membranes had a frame size of 10mm x 10mm and thickness of 381μm and a membrane size of 0.5mm x 0.5mm and thickness 75nm, they were coated with a 5nm Ti adhesion layer and a 20nm Au conductive layer.
