Silson standard silicon nitride membranes are available in both Si3N4 and SiRN with thickness ranging from 10 to 1000 nm, depending on the type of silicon nitride. Standard frame sizes vary from those compatible with TEM grid holders to 23.5 mm with a wide range of membrane sizes depending on the frame size.
Silicon nitride membranes are sized at 0.05, 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 mm increasing in 1.0 mm increments to 19.0 mm, although not all membrane sizes are available for each membrane thickness.
The largest standard membrane available in a 5.0 mm frame is 2.0 mm x 2.0 mm, in a 7.5 mm frame is 3.0 mm x 3.0 mm and for a 10.0 mm frame it is 6.0 mm x 6.0 mm. Membranes up to 19.0 mm x 19.0 mm have been produced in 23.5 mm x 23.5 mm frames.

Although the most popular membranes are square, rectangular membranes are also available and are particularly beneficial when approaching the limit for a given membrane size and thickness combination.
It is possible to increase overall window size as a function of film thickness by producing arrays of membranes to produce multi-element window which are described separately. These are also useful for compartmentalisation of samples for experiments.

Our aim is to develop a prototype Silicon carbide (SiC) pressure sensor for harsh environments utilising our microfabrication expertise to overcome the challenges of high costs, poor scalability and difficult processing normally associated with SiC.
